The Northumberland Farmers' Markets
Association (NFMA) is an umbrella organisation working to
promote farmers' markets in the county, and to encourage
organisations running farmers' markets to operate in
accordance with the principles and guidelines of the
National Association of Farmers' Markets (NAFM) (www.farmersmarkets.net)
Aims
- To promote and
publicise the concept of Farmers' Markets in
Northumberland
- To maintain
the high quality and distinctiveness of Farmers'
Markets
- To promote and
develop existing and new Farmers' Markets in the
county
- To encourage
more producers to sell through Farmers' Markets
- To encourage
more people to shop regularly at Farmers' Markets
and through
these activities:
- To raise
awareness of the benefits of buying local food to
the local economy
- To link
producers and customers, and raise awareness of
local food production and seasonality
- To encourage
healthy eating
- To develop the
local economy and increase local employment
