October in the North East and the Autumn is set-in, but it is a fruitful Autumn

The new season Northumbrian Hill lamb is delicious - and the pork and beef are at their best too.

Seasonal veg include cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, potatoes - but also Winter greens, early swede, neeps

The shellfish season is just starting along the Northumberland coast - some lobsters and langoustines might find their way to local markets rather than being whisked off to continental markets

The hens, ducks and geese are still laying well - plenty of free range eggs to be had.

And of course - there are always the great Northumbrian cheeses, ham, bacon, sausages
